Hi all,

Due to a number of offline concerns and an ongoing medical situation, I will not be running Unconventional Fanwork Exchange this year. The fate of the event moving forward remains to be seen. If anyone wants to use my minimums to run a similar event, you have my blessing.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made this a smooth round! Pinch hitters especially, thank you.

However, the future of this event is uncertain. In light of the recent conversations about the working culture of the OTW and volunteer mistreatment, I am uncertain whether UFEx will run again in its current form (i.e., as a DW-AO3 based event). I am withholding judgement on any final decision on a platform change (or possibly retiring the event altogether) until it gets closer to nominations for next year, until the new OTW board takes office, and until my offline life settles down. This is not an announcement of any particular change to the event, but I feel it's important to be transparent about the possibility. Thank you.

Creators have been revealed for the 2023 round. Thank you so much to all the participants, and especially to the pinch hitters. Keep an eye out for a final wrap-up and feedback post later in the week.

Thanks to everyone who participated! Works are now revealed; please go forth and have a look through the collection! Enjoy the bounty of unconventional fanworks. If there's an issue with your gift -- it hits a DNW you listed in your signup, does not match a fandom/character you requested, is in a medium you did not request, etc. -- please reach out to me via email at flowersforgravesfics (at) gmail (dot) com.

It's time for the yearly post about blanket permission statements, also called transformative works policies! For the purposes of this exchange, you do NOT need one. However, as per the rules, if you are requesting transformative work (i.e., work that involves manipulating another fanwork in some way) such as podfic, translation, recursive work, or similar, you MUST indicate in your signup if you're okay with your own work being transformed to fill your prompt.

Blanket permission statements do not have to be a blanket yes to anything and everything. It's okay to provide stipulations or caveats to your policy, such as "don't translate any of my works in [x fandom]" or "please link back to my original text when podficcing". For some examples, check out the Fanlore article about blanket statements. Anyone may copy and use, in full or in part, my own statement on my AO3 profile.

If you are not comfortable or interested in posting a transformative works policy more generally, but would be comfortable with the possibility of your works being transformed specifically for this exchange (whether as gifts for you or for others), please feel free to leave a comment with the following information:
  • Your AO3 handle
  • What kinds of transformative works you're okay with
  • Any restrictions, caveats, or conditions (including what, if any, fandoms or works are off-limits)

One hour left to nominate freeforms and fandoms/characters! (I will be holding noms open an extra half-hour, as a treat. The last clarification post will go up within the next 24 hours.)

Nominations for fandom/character tagset and for medium tagset are now open! They will remain open until May 8, 2023 at 00:59 UTC (May 7 at 9pm Eastern, May 7 at 6pm Pacific). Please remember to disambiguate all nominations and remove all piping or tone marks.

Thank you all for making this year's event run as smoothly as possible. Now that creators have been revealed, we're onto the part where I solicit your feedback! What worked well for you? What didn't? What would you like to see done differently? As always, I can't promise anything will be implemented, but I'm interested in hearing any and all suggestions.

From the mod end, the two different tagsets for medium vs fandom worked well. The opt-ins were much easier this year than last. I'm really grateful to all the pinch hitters whose awesome work made it possible for us to open on time, and am considering a treats-for-pinch-hitters post next year.

There are just over 36 hours until assignments are due -- the countdown is here. If you need to request an extension, please do so as soon as possible. You can send me a private message here on Dreamwidth, or via email. There are also still some unclaimed pinch hits, which can be found here.

I've made a mistake! Signups are closed right now, since I forgot to enable the mediums in the offers section.

To fix this, I will need to purge the existing signups. I will hold off on doing so for a couple hours to give people time to copy over their existing signups, and additionally I have taken screenshots of all the current signups. If you signed up already and did NOT get a chance to copy your existing signup to save it, you can contact me via email, flowersforgravefics at gmail dot com, or via Dreamwidth private messages with your AO3 handle, and I will send you my image of your signup.

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience. I will be holding signups open for an extra 24 hours to compensate.

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for the lateness of creator reveals. That was entirely my fault and should have been addressed sooner.

With that out of the way, I'd like to thank everyone who participated! I wanted to try a couple new things with the nominations, which I'm not sure worked as well as I hoped. Either way, thank you to everyone who nominated, created works, and signed up.

I've also made the decision to push the regular full-length exchange timeline back by about a month due to a number of factors. I expect nominations to open at the beginning of May.

The full schedule will be made available toward the end of March or beginning of April.

SEMIFLASH REQUIREMENTS:

See the GLOSSARY and MINIMUMS post from the 2021 round. The semiflash minimum will be HALF the listed minimum. Please leave a comment here if you have concerns about the minimums.

RULES:

Gifts are NOT guaranteed.

If, at the end of the signup period, your offers do not match an existing request, your signup will be deleted without notification. This is so I can get assignments out as fast as possible.

Pinch hits will be posted here and in the Exchanges After Dark discord server. You may claim by leaving a comment on the relevant post or sending me a Discord direct message.

If, after work reveals, something about the work(s) you receive are not to your taste, please feel free to reject. Rejecting a work does not reflect on the quality of the work or on the creator personally. As a creator, you should be prepared for the possibility that your recipient may choose to reject the work and/or may not leave a comment.

HOW TO NOMINATE:

Nominate the medium using the fandom slot and put ": Medium" after it. Under the fandom spot, you will type something like "Fanmix: Medium".

Nominate the fandom using the character slot. You MUST put the name of the medium in parentheses after the fandom name. You'll type something like "Final Fantasy XIV (Fanmix)".

You will be able to nominate 10 mediums with 10 fandoms in each medium.

Please nominate franchises and related works at the level you would be happy to receive: for example, if you want a work about The Avengers (2012), you can nominate the movie alone rather than Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Creator's Choice of Fandom is an appropriate nomination, as is Creator's Choice of [subset] Fandom (e.g. "Creator's Choice of Historical Fantasy Fandom").

Nominations not formatted as requested will not be accepted.

REQUESTS AND OFFERS:

You may sign up with 1-5 mediums and 1-10 fandoms per medium.

The optional details box is enabled, but it can ONLY be used for DNWs. If a request has optional details other than DNWs, I will delete the request. If all your requests include optional details that are not DNWs, your entire signup may be deleted.

There is no limit on the number of DNWs you can include, but please remember that you may not box a creator into a specific work or type of work or contradict your requests with DNWs.

To repeat, people whose offers do not match any requests will be deleted without notice.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this round of UFEx. As last year, I'd like to get some community feedback if possible: what worked for you? What didn't work for you? If you have any suggestions, now is the time to share them. Any propositions will be considered, but may not be implemented.

Anonymous commenting is on.

A few thoughts of my own:

- Opt-ins were difficult. Proposed solution: Leave the "Any [category] Medium" tags out altogether, leaving the opt-ins with few enough that they will show up as ticky boxes on the signup form instead.

- Next year, the mediums will go in an "eternal tagset" similar to [community profile] nonconathon's Eternal Kink Tagset; i.e., instead of re-nominating mediums every year, the same tagset will be used based on previous year's tagsets and a VERY limited number of new nomination slots per year.

- Would a canon promo post be helpful? Having seen a few pinch hits linger, I would like to alleviate that crunch at the end if possible.

Creators for the 2021 round of Unconventional Fanwork Exchange have been revealed! Thank you to everyone who participated, and especially to the pinch hitters who made this possible.

Tomorrow, there will be a debrief post where you can provide feedback about what worked, what didn't, and changes you'd like to see next year.

Thanks for joining me!

Works have been revealed for the 2021 round of UFEx. Go forth, consume fanwork!

If your gift does NOT fill one of your requests (i.e., it does not feature a fandom, character/relationship, and ONE media type and respect your DNWs), please contact me ASAP at flowersforgravesfics@gmail.com -- otherwise, enjoy your gift(s)!
