Nominations for the third round of Unconventional Fanworks are now open! Before you go forth to nominate, please take a moment to review the nomination guidelines.
What Can I Nominate? You may nominate up to 5 fandoms, including RPF, crossovers, and original works.. In each fandom, you may nominate up to 10 characters and/or relationships. You may also nominate up to 5 freeform tags, which in this case will be types of fanwork.
How Do I Format My Nominations? All character and relationship nominations will be entered under the character slots. In order to keep the tagset neat and preserve some of AO3's future functionality for other users, you
must nominate relationships in the format "Group: A & B" or "Group: A/B". You may nominate larger or nonspecific groups as long as you are aware that any member of that group will count in a fill. For example, "Group: Any Superhero Characters" or "Group: Any Jedi/Any Clone Trooper" are both acceptable nominations.
For freeforms, you
must preface your fanwork type nomination with one of the following categories:
- Audio and/or Visual
- Crafts and Games
- Fandom
- In-Universe Fanwork
- In-Universe Media and Online
- In-Universe Personal Documents
- In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents
- In-Universe Publication
- In-Universe Social Media and Communication
- Music and Lyrics
- Poetry
- Style
For example, to nominate sonnets, your nomination should read "Poetry - Sonnet", or to nominate a book report, your nomination should read "In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Book Report". Freeform nominations that are not in this format will be queried once on a clarification post, then rejected.
If you feel your freeform doesn't fit in any of the categories, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
How or When Do I Disambiguate? If you are nominating in a large fandom, one with many different continuities or versions, or one with similar characters to another fandom, your tags will need to be disambiguated. This means that you will put a clarifying parenthesis at the end of your nomination. For example, rather than nominating "Sam Wilson," you should nominate "Sam Wilson (Marvel 616)" to make sure your nomination doesn't end up in the wrong fandom.
Fandoms that must be disambiguated:
- Marvel (both comics and films)
- DC (both comics and films)
- Star Wars
- Star Trek
- The Old Guard (differentiate between comics and film)
- Crossover Fandom (ALL characters or groups in crossover nominations must be disambiguated with the name of their source canon)
If your nominations in these fandoms are not disambiguated, they will not be accepted until they are. If you know your nominations are prone to "wandering" to other fandoms, please disambiguate even if your fandom isn't on this list. More disambiguation is not a bad thing, so if you want to disambiguate your small fandoms as well, please feel free to do so (though it is not a requirement).
How Should I Nominate [Large Franchise]?Please feel free to let me know if any of these should be changed; I'm not in all of these fandoms and don't necessarily know what the prevailing preference is.
-
Marvel should be nominated under MCU or Marvel Comics.
-
DC should be nominated under DCU Comics, Arrowverse, or the appropriate movie timeline, including X-Men: Alternate Timeline.
-
Stargate should be nominated under Stargate - All Media Types.
-
Star Wars should be nominated under Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), and Star Wars Legends.
-
Star Trek should be nominated under Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies), or other series names.
With all that out of the way:
go nominate!
