Rules and Guidelines:
Nominations:

The "eternal tagset" for the mediums (here) has been pre-loaded with all of the medium tags from last year. You may nominate one new medium to the tagset this year, using the same format as previous years: Freeform tags should be a type of fanwork. Please be specific with broader categories (for example, "Haiku Series" or "Sonnet" rather than "Poetry"). Freeforms that do not specify a type of fanwork will be queried once on the comm in a clarifications post, then rejected if the nominator does not come forward.

Freeform tags must be prefaced with one of the following categories:
- Audio and/or Visual
- Crafts and Games
- Fandom
- In-Universe Fanwork
- In-Universe Media and Online
- In-Universe Personal Documents
- In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents
- In-Universe Publication
- In-Universe Social Media and Communication
- Music and Lyrics
- Poetry
- Style

For example, to nominate sonnets, your nomination should read "Poetry - Sonnet", or to nominate a book report, your nomination should read "In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Book Report". Freeform nominations that are not in this format will be queried once on a clarification post, then rejected.

For the fandom and character tagset, you may nominate up to five fandoms with ten characters per fandom.

If you know your character tags are prone to "wandering" to fandoms other than the one you nominated them under, please disambiguate by adding the fandom name after the character. For example, if you are nominating in the Elementary (TV) fandom, please type "Sherlock Holmes (Elementary)" or "Sherlock Holmes (Elementary TV)" rather than choosing the canonical "Sherlock Holmes" tag.

To nominate groups of characters, please use the format "Group: A & B" or "Group: A/B" -- these groups should be nominated under the character slot as well. Please make sure your group is clearly defined. "Group: The Doctor & Everyone (Doctor Who 1963)" or "Group: Crew of the Starship Voyager" is going to be difficult for me to judge whether the work filled the prompt. An alternative might be something like "Group: The Doctor & Any Companion" or "Group: Kathryn Janeway & Any Canonical Crew Member".

Please do NOT nominate Creator's Choice of Fandom or characters for that fandom. I will add that fandom and characters to the tagset by hand, and if you would like anything related added, please comment here.

Original Work is an acceptable nomination.

Please nominate crossovers under "Crossover Fandom" and indicate the source of each character. For example, "Group: Felicia Hardy (Spider-Man VG 2018)/Natasha Romanoff (Avengers VG 2020)" should be nominated rather than "Group: Felicia Hardy/Natasha Romanoff".

"Worldbuilding" is also an acceptable nomination in the character slot of any fandom. Please disambiguate "Worldbuilding" regardless of the fandom you're nominating under: for example, "Worldbuilding (Machineries of Empire)".

Signups:

You will be required to request 2-10 distinct fandoms with 1-10 characters or groups, along with one or more freeforms to determine the fanwork medium. Multiple prompts within the same fandom are allowed as long as there are at least two distinct fandoms in your signup.

You will be required to offer 3-10 distinct fandoms with 1-10 characters or groups, along with one or more freeforms to determine the fanwork medium. Multiple prompts within the same fandom are allowed as long as there are at least three distinct fandoms in your signup.

In both offers and requests, the relationship field will be used for opt-ins, detailed below.

If your offers do not allow you to match with any requests, you will be contacted via email by the mod and asked to add or change an offer so you can be matched. If this isn't possible or if you delay more than 48 hours responding, your signup will be deleted.

Pieces that involve explicitly stated & reasonable DNWs will result in the creator banned from this exchange for one future round, and the recipient will go out as a pinch hit to receive a gift that complies with their requests. DNWs included in places other than the AO3 signup (such as in a letter) will not be enforced. In this exchange, a reasonable DNW is defined as one that does not box a creator into making a particular work or type of work, is stated explicitly in the signup form on AO3 and labeled as a DNW, and is not contradicted by the requested tags or prompts (e.g., requesting Sam/Dean in Supernatural and DNWing incest).

Assignments:

OR matching will be done based on fandom, character, and freeform. You are guaranteed to match only on one fandom, one character, and one freeform in the same request.

You will be required to produce a fanwork based on your recipient's requests. If the freeform you matched on provides a general guideline (such as certain poetry forms), that will be the minimum requirement. If the freeform you matched on does not provide a general guideline, please see the style guide. (Here is last year's, which will be added to for this year.)

Other Notes:

- This exchange may rely more heavily on "put in a good-faith effort" than other exchanges due to the nature of the fanwork. However, you are expected to create a quality gift you would be pleased to receive. Please keep that in mind when both requesting and offering.

- If possible, please host your fanwork on AO3. If not, you will still need to fulfill your assignment on AO3 in order to make it easier to tell when everyone has gotten a gift.

- For anyone who wishes to temporarily host their fanwork in an anonymous way, please feel free to reach out to me about hosting options that I can provide.

- Treats are extremely welcome, and do not have to fit the minimums. Unless otherwise indicated, please do not treat in a medium the recipient did not request. You may also gift treats to the mod account, [archiveofourown.org profile] UFEx_mod.

- If you are requesting a transformative medium (i.e., any medium that involves manipulating another fanwork, such as podfic, recursive fic. or translation), you must indicate in your signup if you are okay with your own work being used to fill your own prompt. There will also be an opt-in post where participants without a transformative fanwork policy can indicate on this comm whether they are willing to have their work transformed for this event only.

- Bad-faith participation will not be tolerated, and abusing or manipulating the rules may also result in a permanent ban.

- If you need to contact me to request to not match with someone, please do the following:
a) make sure you tailor your signup to avoid matching to them as much as possible on your own,
b) indicate whether you want to not be matched as their creator, their recipient, or both,
c) tell me what to do if they want to pick up your pinch hit or if they write you a treat, and
d) do not tell me why you don't want to match with them.

A current list of opt-ins is below. If you would like another opt-in added, please leave a comment here so we can discuss it!
