Hi! I submitted two characters for nomination that I left the piping intact for due to possible confusion... Unlike Luo Binghe and Original Luo Binghe, who are two different timeline versions of the same person, Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu and Shen Jiu | Original Shen Qingqiu are two completely different people. Shen Yuan took over Shen Qingqiu's (Shen Jiu's) body and is referred to as Shen Qingqiu for 98% of the story, but Shen Qingqiu as a name also 100% belongs to the original, and everyone thinks SY!Shen Qingqiu is him.

Until recently, the official AO3 tags were "Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu" and "Original Shen Qingqiu," but that was updated so that the latter tag is now "Shen Jiu | Original Shen Qingqiu." So if you want to get rid of piping, you probably could if you opt for "Shen Qingqiu" and "Original Shen Qingqiu"? (It's just slightly less clear imo, and the character tag is also used for Shen Yuans who never became Shen Qingqiu.) Or you could get rid of the piping for Original Shen Qingqiu a la the previous official tags and leave it for Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu.

I figured this would end up in nomination clarifications so I thought I would preempt that and share my thoughts. Sorry if this was the wrong place to do this!

I am very possibly too close to the situation, I keep debating myself in circles lol

Edit: Also AO3 decided to automatically re-add in the tone marks that I didn't put in, I'm attempting to fix it manually but it doesn't seem to be working.

For the tone marks -- you may want to try a different disambig, like (SVSSS DFE). (I believe this happens when someone uses the disambiguated version on a posted work and then it got synned.)

Are we allowed to do "Original [Group] Character"? Using the Harry Kim example you posted, something like "Harry Kim & Original Voyager Crew Member". Or is "Any [Group] Character" considered to include originals too? Thanks!

Yes, "Original Voyager Crew Member" or similar is fine! "Any [group] Character" does not exclude original characters, but I'd recommend specifically nominating "Original [x] Character(s)" if that's important to you.
